Job Description

This vacancy is open at Stage 4 - External recruitment.

Background for the Role:
Driving examiners are required to take learner drivers (candidates) on driving tests. They will be expected to control the test and assess the level of the candidates driving ability against the DSA standards and guidelines.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
• Conduct 7 driving tests per day in accordance with Agency guidelines, which would include eyesight tests, ID checks and vehicle manoeuvres.
• Maintain the required standard to deliver driving tests through personal and continuous development of the technical aspects required
• Establish and maintain a good rapport with candidates to DSA’s required standards
• Deliver a high level of customer service to all candidates
• Complete all necessary paperwork to a high standard in terms of accuracy and legibility
• Support the test centre manager and colleagues in achieving an effective working environment

Essential Criteria
1. Aged 23 years or over at time of application – (this is a requirement of the 3rd EU Driving Licence Directive (Directive 2006/126/) as the minimum age to undertake driving tests.
2. To have held a valid driving licence continuously for four years
3. Have no more than three penalty points on your licence

Additional Information:
Successful candidates will be placed in merit order dependent on the result of the drive and behavioural assessments. Proximity to the chosen location may also be taken into consideration when offers of employment are made.

Note: If you do not live within reasonable daily travelling distance of any of the listed vacancies please do not apply as it is unlikely we will be able to offer you a position.

Before offers can be made candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced CRB check and health declaration / assessment as part of pre-employment checks.

Final offer of appointment is subject to successfully completing an intensive 4 to 5 week, full time training course at our residential training college in Cardington. During the training course your performance will be reviewed and assessed on a daily basis

Assessment Centres/Offline tests

Candidates will be required to complete an on-line Situational Judgement Test (SJT) hosted by Survey Monkey. You will be sent a link to the SJT following receipt of your application on CSJobs, the message will include your Candidate ID number which you will need to include on your SJT application.
The closing date for completion of the SJT is Monday 3rd March at Midnight. Please note, you will be required to confirm your Candidate ID number from your email in order to start.

Successful candidates will then be prioritised for invitation to an assessment event comprising of both an assessment of driving ability and behavioral / role play exercises.

Having only occasional contact with DSA drives me nuts, imagine having to work in that regime all day ! Yuk, no chance. In my opinion their salaries should be doubled, that would go some way to compensating them for working in such a shambolic organisation :-)
