do you use GDE matrix

When delivering a fleet session to a client would you normally incorporate the GDE matrix and would it be possible to cover ALL elements of the matrix in a 3 hour session if it were 2 drivers to 1 trainer?

You can cover the higher levels of the matrix with q and a!

Hi Daz, any examples of the type of Q & A you would use.

Re: do you use GDE matrix

So how do you feel about the corporate culture of drinking the night before you travel?

Can you explain your rationale behind that?

Now what will you take forward from this?

Re: do you use GDE matrix

E.g. Ask: "What power tools do you use at home?"
On a scale of 1 to 10 rate your level of focus on the power tool job.
(1 = away with the fairies to 10 = totally focused to the exclusion of everything else.")
Ask why that score?
And for the driving task, what score on the same scale on a good or bad day?
- what makes it a bad day or a good day?
- what are the options to improve that score?
...
- follow this wherever it leads (and it can lead to some unexpected places: time management and journey planning issues, work pressures, multi-tasking, phones, fatigue, bending rules, cutting corners ...) ALL of these have a massive potential negative impact on outcomes and a far bigger impact than "crossing hands" or other handling skills at the lower levels of the Matrix.

Make any scale specific.

After all, the core goals of "coaching" (and effective fleet training) = to raise self-awareness and responsibility in order to have any chance of a lasting training impact well after the trainer has gone home.

What you soon have is a number of things that can't be changed realistically and a list of things that can AND a self-awareness and willingness in the driver to explore the second list.

Ps Be wary of over-egging "scaling", though!  I know one trainer who did and got a jokey but serious "if you ask me to scale one more thing, I'll ... "

Re: do you use GDE matrix

Fleet should really be directed to level 5 with a few questions to define level 3 & 4

Your question is to broad as today many fleet drivers have had a few training sessions and are on their third or fourth rotation, bringing into play a serious trainer/driver relationship, where the 3rd and 4th levels are only used as reference.
