Part 1 - Done ;-)

Hi all,

Im new to the site after being recommended by an ADI friend of mine, so thought id let you know i got my Part 1 today with a 94/100 and a 60/75.

Im pleased with the result for the questions but felt i could do better with my HPT result, but the main thing is i passed  big_smile

Im doing my training with the AA and have spoken to my instructor about taking a couple of weeks off work, and intensively training for the two weeks before my part 2 test, as i used this method for my hgv c and c+e, and passed with no significant problems.

Can anyone share their experience with intensive training? Would be useful to get some feedback.

Many Thanks

Pat

I'll be doing my training in the Brighton area with some focus on Eastbourne as that is where the test centre is.

Re: Part 1 - Done ;-)

Hi Pat

Before you sat your Part 1 how was you getting on with your HPT practise, also what type of software/discs  were you using for practise. Did you try the HPT on the AA cd rom?
I seem ok using the DVD interactive Focus, but just falling short with the HPT mock tests on the AA cd rom.Any advice would be welcome.

Re: Part 1 - Done ;-)

Hi John

I was using the AA Discs for the HPT Training, but move to 'Focus' as the AA Disc didnt give you the option to train as an ADI, where as the Focus software did.  I did very well withe both and took 12 mock tests with focus and passed them all so decided to book my theory for the 1st Sep.

All was going well until the HPT part of the test, and i really struggled, having the red cross given to me twice which ultimately led to failing with a 56/75  :?

I think that the DSA software is alot more sensitive than software such as focus etc

Anyways, i rebooked for the 3rd Sep and passed!!

So to sum it up, i dont think that the HPT is any good for measuring a candidates perception skills. No screen can reproduce what the eye can see at distance, and is very off putting when you score a zero for something that can't be distinguished because of the detail on screen. The only advice i can really give is that the focus is a much better tool as it analyses your progress and as for clicking the mouse, some people say 'double click' instead of single clicking, but i found that if you click and then look above the screen and then click when you look back at the screen (kind of like using your mirrors and then re-assessing the hazard as your eyes move back to the screen) it works alot better with your scoring.

Let me know your thoughts John

Oh and i've just booked my part 2 for the 9th October down in sunny eastbourne  yikes

Re: Part 1 - Done ;-)

Hi Pat.

I think that the problem with the HPT, not that I have sat the part 1 yet, but it's the uncertainty of how you will get on. Like you said if you get a couple of zero's you're struggling. With the theory you have an idea how you are progressing when you are practicing, and you can gauge how you might fair in the theory test, but I just feel that the HPT in it's current format that you can't go in with much certainty of how you will do. Surely with the cost of a part 1 they could of introduced something that is more measureable of your perception skills, even if you had to give a commentary so someone could assess how many hazards you identify not just the hazard that develops, rather than just increasing the pass mark for a PDi.
It just  frustrates me that I feel I have progressed well with theory mock tests, but I feel until I see what is front of you that the HPT could end up being a hit or a miss, and with the cost of the test then I want to feel that when I sit the test that if I perform well that I should pass. It's just you see all these people who obviously have put a lot of study into the theory and get mid to high 90's even 100% but then they get 55 or 56 on the HPT and they have to do it all again.

As you can tell this is an area that is worrying me.

Thanks for your advice I will try to put the pause as if looking at my mirrors into my practice and see how it goes.

Pat all the best with your part 2 test.

John

Re: Part 1 - Done ;-)

John, At what stage are you? Your status shows that you are a recognised adi/pdi/trainer? And what are all the stars? Lol

Re: Part 1 - Done ;-)

Hi Pat

I'm the middle option PDI,not sure if you can get the ADI/TRAINER amended. I have just completed my allocated hours for the theory workbook towards my part1 and had my first module with my trainer last week for the start of the part 2, I also did the 3 modules with the theory mock questions with him last week. All the stars appear I think once you reach your 15th post.
