Insurance for car on part two test

Hi All,
My insurance cover for my car is third party fire and theft, with driver and passenger cover for treatment and injuries arising out of the use of this car.

Is this all I need for part two test cover.

Part one passed 1st Time 06/04/2009 98/68
Part two passed 1st time 23/06/2009 2df
part three           waiting

You'd be best to call your insurance company to find out if your policy covers driving tests. If not, you could get a "one day" cover from one of the specialist insurance companies (cost me £40).

Your part 2 test is simply a test of your driving. As long as the car is legal & roadworthy, you are covered. So normal insurance, whether it is third party only or fully comp is irrelavent. You are covered to drive, that is all that is required.

Part 3 is different as the ex will drive your car, so you need cover for that.

oldcodger.... without getting into a disagreement what grahamadi said is quite likely to be correct.... some insurance comps will not cover you for driving tests so you need to make sure.

i know of one case where some one wanted to hire a car from a normal car hire comp and he asked if it was covered for doing his part 2 test and they were very firm that it wasnt.. My own insurer was happy for me to do it although i know others who had to argue...... and an argument after an accident is no good with insurance comps.

so although you might be right that some (many) dont care.... others do (even if they shouldnt).... and the OP had best do the usual most sensible thing and check with there insurer just to be sure.

Re: Insurance for car on part two test

Some insurance will not cover an UNQUALIFIED driver taking a driving test, correct. A PDI is a qualified driver and is not driving on a rally, off road course, racing or for hire and as all policies stipulate, it is normal driving. In the case of a part 2 test the PDI drives in their normal high standard way. There is no insurance company I can think of that has ever required anyone to inform them that they are taking a part 2 test. Hiring a car is totally different and will usually exclude anything that it can.

By all means check of course, no harm in that, but they will not need to know and will almost certainly the person you speak with will be 18, never driven, won't know what a part 2 is and will have to go away and ask. The question they will ask will be...' There is a man on the phone that wants to do some special test in his car, is he covered?' And the supervisor (aged 19) will say no. Then after going up the ladder to the senior regional manager (age 20 1/2) you will finally get back to normailty of a sort, where you will find that yes you are covered and no, they do not need to be told. The exact same process can be achieved by asking them if you are coverd to blow your nose.
