Re: Which type of course is better?

Hi,

Sorry to drop this on you, But if you fail, You fail !

I think some schools offer you some more driving lessons, But check the small print. There are lots of offers/Deals to be had.

Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with an intensive course but i feel 'for some' it is to much to take in all at once.

I would recommend no more than 2 hours a day and maybe 5 days a week.

At the end of the day Nikki i think it depends on you !
do you need to learn in a rush or can you take your time ?
Are you the kind of person who soaks up info ?

I'm sure others will post as well as myself, Best of luck and remember if you have any questions at all we are here to help you  big_smile

Re: Which type of course is better?

Hi Nicki,

I agree with Approved Instructor, but would up the max hours to 3 a day, I find most can cope with that.

If you do fail with an intensive course specialist type school they often can't fit you in for your extra lessons prior to your next test. You would then have to find another instructor and maybe a different car.

With current waiting times of about 8 to 20 weeks, why not spread it out over this period and have a couple of good long lessons 2 or 3 times a week until you are on top of things, then adjust in the final weeks to suit.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards,

Re: Which type of course is better?

Hi Nicki
Like the others I would suggest you think really carefully before paying out a lot of money to a company / instructor for an intensive course.  Don't forget - because you are booking out a lot of their week they will need to ask for a substantial non refundable deposit.  This means that even if you don't like the instructor you will have to keep going or lose your money.  You may also have a long wait before you can get an intensive course booked.

Many of my pupils need a lot of practice at each topic before they feel confident and although intensive lessons mean that you will get a lot more practice a lot more quickly, it does not mean you will pass in fewer hours altogether.

Have you considered your cash flow situation?  Some people prefer to spread the costs out so that they can afford to keep going with lessons until they feel confident (and most importantly their instructor feels confident) of taking the test.

Beware of companies that offer intensive courses to include the price of your test.  This seems like a really good idea - until you discover that either they let you go in for the test when you're not ready (which can wreck your confidence) or they expect you to take more lessons to get to test level and you don't feel able to change companies because you won't get your free test if you move.

There's no simple answer I'm afraid.  It all depends on your own circumstances, but unless you have a pressing need to pass in a short time scale most people find that two or three lessons a week is fine.
