Phase 2 - why have tick boxes on the marking sheet when there's no briefing?

Was looking at the PST marking sheets the other day (ADI 26) and something struck me as odd.

The Phase 1 sections (upper left of form)  all have a vertical list of boxes that get ticked by the examiner as you cover them in your briefing, i.e. MSM, Coasting, Clearance etc etc. 
 
However, the Phase 2 section (lower left of form) also has boxes showing similar things.....   I'm confused, because you don't really do a briefing for phase 2 (with possible exception of Reverse park).  With Phase 2 we're just being reactive to what's thown at us.....   So why have these boxes?  I'm worried I've got the wrong understanding....?  Any clarification is much appreciated.

They are not a list for briefing.
they are relevent subjects within the PST.
Not all subjects will be covered on every test, but if they are, then they will gain a mark. If not, then they will be marked as not covered.
that means not covered throughout the phase and does not mean not incuded in the briefing.

Example, PST1 phase 2, crossroads.
One of the topics is right corner cut. But if the "pupil" has not had to deal with turning right, then this may not have been covered, or the "pupil" does not display any tendencies to cut the corners when turning right.
Although, it's a good idea to talk about anything in the list even if it's not happening on the test itself.

Using the example above, the "pupil" may be dealing with right turns well (due to car waiting to emerge), or perhaps he is approaching to turn right at his first right turn, it would be prudent to Q+A on approach regarding his positioning and how he intends to avoid cutting the corner, and if time permits, why should we avoid cutting the corner.

You haven't briefed right corner cuts, but you have dealt with it during the lesson, and so it would receive a mark in the satisfactory box.

If you sit briefing all the topics in the list for phase 2, or even Q+A and include every topic in that list, you wont get much time to help him with his driving, and that's what he wants to see.

For Part 2, listen to the pupil description and ask 2 or 3 relevent questions regarding the description and the topic being covered, and that's it.  Gain a little understanding of hias knowledge, fix any shortfalls relevent to his answers, and then get the guy driving so he can show you driving faults for you to fix.

They're ideal to base your briefings on though. I'd tend to touch on all of them briefly, even if only to say that we will cover it during the session if we get time.

On phase 2 you won't need to brief them on them, but then you'd need to recap on them instead, so think of relevant questions for each item. This recap will give you a clue as to where the ex will put the faults, same as you would with a customer.

As another thought, remember to listen to the "Pupil" in role play, it will help you decide what to speak about, clearly if the pupil says they are having trouble turning right at crossroads, then asking questions about left turns would be a waste of time, and probably get the "examiner" thinking you had not listened and just decided to work your plan, rather than train the "pupil."

I agree with the last two posts however the SE will drop in some help, if you cover again something he said he is okay with, usually along the lines of, my instructor has always sai my left turns have been good.

The q&a can be story form, which keeps it very brief, but asks the questions you need.  I would also touch on the list without haing to go into too much detail, just to establish knowledge, before teaching it on the road.
