What would you do if...

You were at red traffic lights and an emergency vehicle came up with sirens on needing to get passed and there wasn't room unless you moved over the stop line. Would you still wait for green light to move or would you move past stop line while lights still on red.

This is a topic on another forum and half say they would go through red light and half say they would still wait as going through red light is illegal for what ever reason.
no right or wrong answer even ADIs disagree on this one.

Arguement for going through from other forum:
1) Someones life could be saved if you go through on red that would not have been saved otherwise.
2) if it was your loved one whos life depended on it you would probably go through.

Arguements against going through:
1) against law no matter what reason you go through
2) could put yourself or others in danger
3) emergency services are specially trained to make sure they can go through red lights and stay safe you are not.
4) you could end up with points and fine therefore depending how many points you have on and how long you have had licence you could lose your licence.

Some people say you wouldn't get points and fine others say you would.

Re: What would you do if...

Hi
It seems to me, when this has cropped up before, that if someone says they move forward their critics assume they mean entering the crossing traffic flow, whereas it is usually possible to move forward and to the side far enough to allow passage, WITHOUT actually exiting the road you are on and entering the conflicting traffic flow.

Can I add, that it really would depend on the situation at the time.
