It is not necessary to consider extending if there is no advantage to be gained, as in the situation you describe.

I totally agree, as far as i'm concerned, there has to be an advantage to be gained if you're going to change your position for a bend.

If he'd been travelling at 120mph, i'm sure there would have been an advantage
