That is the norm in South Wales. There is even one guy who has ten lessons for £99 as his block booking discount normal price is £13 per hour. The AA only charge £21 per hour. I know of lots of ADI's who have had to take second jobs, have left the industry or are looking to leave, and the crdit crunch will only make matters worse.

I would not reduce my fees under any circumstances.  I try to keep on par with all the other instructors in my area.  What is the point of starting a price war and cutting each others throats...

I would rather park up my car than going out to earn a few buttons.

i'm afraid 10hrs for £99 is becoming very normal in doncaster area aswell.i have now stopped my ads in local rag as it's pointless amongst the 10 for £99 or first 4hrs for £4 each.

i had someone round a few weeks ago from local chambers of commerce for a chat they call them business buddies & try & give you good ideas on how to push your business forward.

unfortunately even though he was a nice enough chap the best idea he came up with was 'why don't you give an offer of 10 hrs for £99'.

i decided instead to put my price up a little instead of following suit with everyone else around here a knocking prices down further.

the going rate in doncaster seems to be around £18 & i have just put mine up to £19.50 & will up it to £20 after xmas.
if i need to keep upping my prices i will if i want to earn a profit but to keep knocking prices down is madness.

to be honest though i don't worry about the long term as i am looking at other avenues & will eventually just do the driving for a bit of extra income & that is through choice not necessity.

Wow what a price £99 for 10 hours so whats the catch anyone knows?HuhHuh?

In my area someone advertising 6 lesson for £70 however the catch here is to have 6 lesson at £70 you have to prepay for 10 lesson which is £230 so total 16 lesson for £300 = £18.75 Ph.

If there is no catch for 10 lesson at £99 I think the Instructor should give up this job and go in warehouse where the pay is £7.50 to £10 per hour which will be guaranteed every week with no out goings e.g car, fuels, other bills etc.

Evening all, just spent 20 mins on a reply so i'll start again as it disappeared  huh huh huh

These prices are ridiculous... i charge £20ph and no discounts unless block bookings.  I know ADIs are trained to teach and not be business minded but you soon learn yourself  shocked

I qualified last year on 11th sept and went indy straight away, i worked for a global company in customer service and have to say i ve enjoyed (almost) every day since.  Yes i work 7 days a week but its my choice, my diary, my fault and im too soft but i'd never work for less than im worth.  I love my job and i sleep, eat and breath it!!!

Got lots to learn i guess... but to me, pupils risk your life everytime they get in your car.

There's a few cars about with "offers" on and to be honest i'd be embarassed to drive them, these people need to leave the industry as soon as they entered... if at all they passed part 3!!!!

My opinion entirely, others may think that under cutting works.  My view is that if you work 100%, teach 100%, give 100% in your attitude you ll never have to drop down to the  low lifes... harsh it sounds but i ll never do it!!

Customers get what they pay for, so stop whinging and improve the quality of what you are selling and charge accordingly, and to hell with the cheapos.

and how much are the remaining lessons?

For example, someone charging £20 per hour, no discounts....45 hours = £900

Someone giving 1st 10 hours for £99 with the rest at £25....35 @ £25 = £875 + £99 = £974.

All I'm trying to show is that we shouldn't criticise something until we know all the facts!
